Fire resistance

Unlike timber and steel, concrete offers up to four hours built-in fire resistance, free of charge.

In most cases, concrete does not require any additional fire-protection because of its built-in fire resistance. It is a non-combustible material and has a slow rate of heat transfer. Concrete ensures that structural integrity remains, fire compartmentation is not compromised and shielding from heat can be relied upon.

The 4 hour fire resistance of concrete removes the need for additional intumescent coating and fire retardants thereby reducing the environmental impact and economic cost of the structural frame
