THE BENEFITS OF REINFORCEMENT PREFABRICATION

The benefits of prefabricated reinforcement are explained in a new report from the British Association of Reinforcement (BAR).

As a recognised Modern Method of Construction (MMC) prefabricated reinforcement offers a cost efficient and sustainable alternative to onsite traditional methods of tying individual reinforcement bars into place. Prefabricated reinforcement can be used for a wide range of structural elements including floors, columns, beams and walls and accordingly come in various forms from reinforcement pile and column cages, column bases and ground beams to welded floor mats.

Prefabricated reinforcement is focussed on offsite factory construction of a quality assured product that enables fast and efficient onsite delivery and installation that results in reduced construction time, reduced on-site labour requirements and increased buildability with improved site planning and organisation.

In addition, there is the health and safety benefit of the removal of reinforcement tie bars, stray bars and pieces of tying wire provides a tidier, safer site and the sustainability benefit of reducing waste that comes efficient reinforcement repetition.

Supported with project case studies, the report outlines the benefits of full involvement of the reinforcement fabricator at the design stage.
